Breathing new life into Canadian homes
Like most companies, Square One transitioned to working from home in response to the pandemic. They learned from customers and staff that home is becoming a higher priority for families. More than ever, families need a safe space to enjoy each other’s company.
So, Square One came up with the Room Makeover series. It’s a terrific way to entertain those at home and help the families and communities that need it most right now.
The series is hosted by interior designer Lisa Moody from Grapevine Designs with support from Morris VanAndel of Vanwest Developments. Each episode introduces viewers to the family and follows the makeover process from conceptualization to construction to styling—all completed within a 48-hour window.
Viewers can see the thought process behind the design and the challenge of implementing it within tight time constraints. It all culminates with a surprise reveal to the family.
“The Room Makeover Series is our way of giving something back to the community, especially during what’s been an incredibly trying time for everyone,” says Daniel Mirkovic, Square One’s President. “We’re so happy to have been able to help another family transform their home this summer.”

Kaela, Matthew, and Beckett: Episode 2
In episode 2, we meet Kaela, Matthew, and their son Beckett, a family living in Port Moody, BC. Beckett was born shortly before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was born with an abdominal wall defect that required constant care, and a lengthy hospital stay.
Despite his own health challenges stemming from multiple spinal surgeries, Matt worked tirelessly to take care of the family during this unimaginably challenging time. Touched by their story of perseverance, we chose Kaela and Matt to be the second family featured in The Room Makeover Series.
“We were deeply moved by Kaela and Matt’s story,” says Mirkovic. “We knew right away that this was a family we wanted to help, and whose incredible story we wanted to share.”
